If you tell it to, Friendster helpfully reminds you when your friends’ birthdays are coming up. This is handy for calling them, writing them, or leaving them happy birthday comments on their wall Friendster profile.
Look at the email itself:
What’s missing? The birthday itself. Instead of building trust with its members by providing them useful information, Friendster, too is nothing but a click whore.
Interesting article you linked to (love that guy’s portfolio, too…sigh). The thing is, in some was Facebook is just another click whore too – or maybe app whore. I have a feeling that the very thing that lead to its success – opening up their backend so people develop apps and then promote those apps on Facebook – will lead to its demise (or rather ‘disenchantment’). Or socnets will end up as domains of various areas – MySpace only for bands, Facebook only for friend updates, and blog comments only for real commentary :p
