Newer-model iPods give this message when you attempt to connect them to a computer via FireWire:
FireWire connections are not supported. To transfer songs, connect the USB cable to dismiss.
This demonstrates key elements of a good error message:
- A reason for the error
- Suggested corrective action
Sure beats “connection failed, -2819,” doesn’t it?
That’s great, except my nano is giving this message whenever the battery starts getting low. It happens when I connect a USB cable. It even happens when I have nothing connected but the lanyard! I don’t have a single firewire cable or device in my house. I just replaced the battery thinking this would help, but to no avail.
