I’ve proposed a panel for SXSW interactive 2007, “Getting to Consistency: Lessons Learned from Big Cats.” The panels will be decided by an online vote. Head over to the 2007 SXSW Interactive Panel Proposal Picker and vote for me. :)
Here’s the description:
Making software predictable and consistent makes it much easier to use. This session will explain UI consistency and point out examples of failures and their consequences. We’ll discuss when it’s appropriate to break consistency, and how to build tools and process to ensure applications are consistent with human interface guidelines and real-world practices. Specific attention will be paid to consistency in your everyday tools: Mac OS X and Adobe applications.
That picker blows money chunks. I’ll vote for you I’ve narrowed down which 10 (out of the 100 I want to go to). Selecting via drop down really does not work here – what, no way to actually read the blurbs on a separate page (even a pop up would do)? I have to scroll through my selection to evaluate them? Considering the number of categories they have, there’s got to be some other way to break it out of the (dropdown menu) box, no?
Y’know, I start to cry when I see a YellowFadeAJAX bit on a page now. I know then the page is going to be the digital equivalent of sugar – sweet tasting, nice to look at but ultimately empty and not good for you.
Yes, I know – I have to stop leaving snarky remarks on other people’s blogs. Sorry about that :p
