How to block Facebook ads

This will prevent many of the annoying ads from showing up on Facebook:
sudo echo "127.0.0.1 ads.ak.facebook.com" >> /etc/hosts

One would think with all the demographic data they have about me, they could show me relevant ads. One would be wrong.

    update it mate.. they seem to know this one… the actual url of every ad is wayy to complex to be added and can u block the annoying pics of ads this application too, somewhow?

    Doesn’t block the text ads alongside a profile (for example).

    Need to use a browser plugin to block http://creative.ak.facebook.com/ads* and http://*facebook.com/beacon/*
